Plastic Ocean Project has agreed to Sponsor me at the PSLA Conference

I was asked to speak as a Featured Author at the Palmetto State Literary Association Conference in February in Hilton Head, SC and Plastic Ocean Project is sponsoring me! Wahoo! 

I'm so honored that people believe in the power of ISLAND GIRLS, my little picture book that started as a dream. ISLAND GIRLS is really becoming a very real reality. A reality I am so proud of for sticking up for my vision and being strong enough to be patient and publish it the right way. I hope to share a sneak peek of a spread or two in the coming weeks. 

So, for all who are asking, what is happening behind the scenes? Here is a small snapshot of what I am working on: 

• ISLAND GIRLS was registered with the Library of Congress on September 1, 2022.
• Plastic Ocean Project has agreed to write the official foreword for my book, so we are working on that (!!)
• I am working on the back matter of the book (activities and resources to get involved)
• Svitlana has completed 4 illustration spreads and they are more beautiful than I could have ever pictured.
• I need a new author headshot for the back of my book. 
• We are writing the "About the Author" and "About the Illustrator" copy.
• ISLAND GIRLS is in its second round of editing with the publisher.
• Formatting is up next for the design team.
• Cover Design is up next for the illustrator. 
• Hoping for a pre-order and books in hand by Christmas... 
• I need to put my PR hat on so that when book launches... I'm ready! 

Those are the bigger pieces right now... there are so many little details that I need to include and I am just getting really organized because it's a lot.
